Obedience Brings Maturity
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; Hebrews 5:8 (KJV)
This says that Jesus, God’s Son, had to learn obedience by the things He personally experienced. Jesus did this for us. He overcame, and so can we. If Jesus experienced tough situations, we will too. This is called tribulation in the Bible, Tribulation actually means pressure or temptation. It refers to pressure applied to the flesh.
We go through things in order to learn obedience. Life’s experiences do just that- give us experience. We learn to make right choices in the things we go through which allows us to overcome like Jesus did. Verses 9 and 10 tell us the results of Jesus learning obedience.
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews 5:9-10 (KJV)
The things Jesus went through matured Him and prepared Him for what He was called to do for mankind. As we obey God, we allow the Lord to mature us. All that we go through won’t be wasted or lost. Jesus takes it and uses it to grow us up. Jesus does not send every experience, especially situations that cause destruction, but He will use it to make us more mature and useable for God’s purposes.
When we go through trying times, we must do what we can t get the most out of the situation. Even in bad times, we can benefit because God can use it to mature and perfect us for the things ahead.
