Word Over Worry
Therefore do not worry or be anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ Matthew 6:31 (Amplified Bible, AMP)
Are you struggling with worry? Are you eager for some peace? The Word of God is our ticket to peace. Therefore we must get the Word to get peace. And, of course, to hold onto our peace, we must hold onto the Word.
When we begin to worry, we need to check-up on what we are thinking about. Are we thinking about what to do, how to do it, or when to do it? Wise planning is helpful, but worry is not. We must be cautious about our thoughts and words.
Jesus said to take no thought worrying. Worry will come, but when those thoughts come we are to cast them down by speaking God’s Word. If we give in and accept each thought of worry, and if we speak it out, our peace is stolen from us. Yes, it is tempting to talk about the worries that come, or the wrong thing someone said or did to us, but we must resist. We also like to dwell on past mistakes, and we need to stop it. These things all take away the peace Jesus gave us, holds us captive, and renders us ineffective for the Kingdom.
When we speak God’s Word, its supernatural power conquers and casts down the negative, destructive thoughts of worry and defeat. As we fill up on God’s Word, it will wash away our troubling thoughts. Our minds will be filled by the Word, leaving no room for worry and fear to take up residence. This allows God’s Word to rule in us, releasing God’s peace in us.
Make a conscious decision to stop worrying, and take God at His Word. We can trust who God is and what He has said. Keep in mind all the times God has helped you and met your need. This is the kind of thinking that helps us face the future without worry, taking life one day at a time.
