Changing Times and Seasons
And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding. Daniel 2:21 (NKJV)
Daniel spoke of God changing times and seasons. What did he mean by that? Let’s look at a couple other translations of this verse to see if we can get some clarity on this.
He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. Daniel 2:21 (New Living Translation, NLT)
According to the New Living Translation, the changing of times and seasons speaks of God controlling world events. The Contemporary English Version gives a similar perspective on it.
You control human events— you give rulers their power and take it away, and you are the source of wisdom and knowledge. Daniel 2:21 (Contemporary English Version, CEV)
This tells us that God has the ability to control what goes on in the earth. We also know that the children of God have been given authority in the earth. It is a partnership. God seeks people in the earth with whom He can partner to accomplish His will. When we agree with Him by speaking His Word, we work with Him to accomplish His plan. He gives us His wisdom and works through us to proclaim His will and accomplish His purposes.
It is an amazing thing to be included as a participant in bringing God’s will to fruition. But, we must never forget that God is the ultimate authority and it is His plan that will be done. He is looking for us to work with Him, but He changes times and seasons, orchestrating human events. As we cooperate with Him, we can participate in the manifestation of His plan and help bring it to pass.
