What Is Truth?
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: II Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. II Peter 1:21 (KJV)
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. John 18:38 (KJV)
When Jesus stood before Pilate, Pilate asked, What is truth?” He asked this, not knowing that Truth was standing right in front of him (John 14:6). Some people can’t see truth because they are blinded by satan’s lies (II Corinthians 4:4). When people reject God’s Word, they are open to believe any and every lie.
We can’t tell what is true and what is false without the truth of God’s written Word. People are easily deceived when they don’t know or they outright reject God’s Word because the Word is truth. When people reject Jesus, they reject truth, because that is who He is. When they resist the Holy Spirit, they resist truth because He is the Spirit of Truth. In rejecting these, they have nothing left but the lies of the devil. Satan is a liar and the father of all lies (John 8:44). All lies and deception originate from the devil.
Lies will damn people to Hell, but truth will save them from it. Lies bring death and bondage, but truth brings life and freedom. A lie that is believed and lived out brings death, eternal separation from God. On the other hand, Truth believed, received, and lived out, brings eternal life with God (John 3:16-21).
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17 (KJV)
We can discern what is of God and what is of satan based on God’s written Word, because the Word is truth. As we know the truth and continue in it, we will continue to be free (John 8:31-32). However, when we stop receiving, or reject, the truth, we get off course and onto a path God never intended for us to walk on (II John 1:11). We know who is of God and not of God by comparing their lifestyle, and fruit with the truth of God’s Word. Whatever and whoever does not line up to the written Word of God is a lie and must be rejected. That which aligns with the Word should be accepted.
The more we know God’s Word, the more we will know the truth and will not be deceived by doctrines of demons (I Timothy 4:1), man’s false teaching (Matthew 15:6,9), and the world’s viewpoint (Roman 12:12). Instead, we will know the truth, stand for truth, and fight for truth. Truth will win the fight. Continue in Jesus and His Word, and you shall know the Truth and Truth will make you free.
