Good Life- Part 2
Yesterday we saw that good thoughts help to produce a good life. Another key factor in how our lives go is our words. Good words help to create a good life for us.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21 (KJV)
We either speak death or life. Death in this verse is the Hebrew word maveth, and signifies death that occurs by both natural and violent means. It expresses the idea of ruin or destruction, especially when contrasted with the desirable concepts of life, prosperity and happiness. Life, on the other hand, is the Hebrew word chay, which refers to alive, living things such as animals, birds, sea creatures, etc. So, with our tongues, we release words that bring either life or death.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV)
God presents us a with a choice: life or death, blessing or cursing. He even makes the right choice evident, telling us to choose life. We make the choice by the thoughts we think (Romans 8:6) and the words we speak. We can speak forth life, and thus curse death and all it brings: sickness, lack, unhappiness. Or, we can speak death and curse our blessings.
The words we speak produce the fruit we will eat. We control our quality of life, releasing words that produce a blessed life or a cursed one. A life of death is separation from God and the things of God. It is characterized by an absence of love, joy, peace, health, prosperity, happiness, and fulfillment. If we speak words of life, we will enjoy a life with God and the good things of God: peace, joy, and blessing.
What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. Psalm 34:12-14 (KJV)
Simply stated, good words bring a good life, while bad words produce a bad life. Happiness or sadness, good health or sickness- the choice is up to us and the words we choose. We can select a life of direction, purpose, and fulfillment, or we can have an aimless, purposeless, unfulfilled life.
What we think and what we speak have consequences. Our thoughts and words can help us to enjoy life and all God has for us or the exact opposite. we must renew our minds to the word of God to think correctly and then to speak correctly. As we do, it will help us to become, do, and have all God intended.
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Ephesians 2:10 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)
