Healing For the Whole Person Through Jesus

Healing For the Whole Person Through Jesus

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)

Today, I want to discuss the seven points where Jesus suffered in His body, each one corresponding to healing for a part of the whole person- adding up to complete and total healing for each of us.

His Head

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:16 (KJV)

They pressed a crown of thorns on Jesus head, then hit Him with a rod directly on that crown to press the thorns in deeper, causing more pain and drawing more blood. This speaks of God crowning us with healing for our minds so we can think and remember with the mind of Christ. With the mind of Christ, we always have a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7). This points to mental and emotional healing and wholeness.

His Back

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I Peter 2;24 (KJV)

Jesus’ back was whipped for the healing of our physical bodies. Whether it is back pain, a terminal illness such as cancer, a contagious sickness like the flu or a chronic condition such as arthritis- by the lashes, or the stripes, on the back of Jesus- we have been healed. Jesus took our pain so we can receive His healing. This points to physical healing and wholeness.

His Left Hand, Right Hand, Left Foot, and Right Foot

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. Psalm 22:16 (KJV)

Spikes were driven through the hands (actually the wrists) and feet of Jesus. He took the nails in these places to show that we now are free to lift our hands in worship and to walk with God. Our hands can now work for God and our feet can dance before Him. This points to the healing of the separation between us and God, or our spiritual wholeness.

His Side

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. John 19:34 (KJV)

Blood flowed from the side of Jesus. This speaks of the healing of broken relationships, since Genesis 2:22 tells us that Eve was brought forth from the side of Adam. Jesus’ side was pierced to bring forth the healing of His bride, the church. Jesus was pierced to heal relationships. That’s how personal and close we are to Him. Jesus holds us dear. This points to healing of our relationship with people and with the Lord, or relational wholeness.

Jesus provided healing for the whole person: spirit, soul, and body (I Thessalonians 5:23, III John 1:2).

For the spirit, Jesus was bruised for our transgressions. This is spiritual healing, the new birth. He was crushed for our iniquities. Our iniquities are the root to our problems and pain. Through Jesus, wholeness of spirit was provided.

For the soul, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him. In other words, the punishment that provides peace was on Him. We have peace because Jesus paid for the healing of the soul: our minds, wills, and emotions. All the anguish, anxiety, fear, and mental torment was placed on Jesus so we could live in total peace.

For the body, the stripes that were placed on Jesus paid for our physical health and healing. This applies to any and all sort of physical ailment or problem. Every physical body part, body system , or organ is healed and whole.

Every place where Jesus was pierced or wounded corresponds to a sick or wounded place in us or in our lives that has been made whole thorugh Jesus’ sacrifice. Jesus really paid it all.
