Worthy Conduct

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, contending together as one man for the faith of the gospel. Philippians 1:27 (New International Version, NIV: pre-1984 edition)

No matter what happens, we’re to conduct ourselves based on God’s Word, not based on how we feel. By this, we can stand firm in one spirit with no one causing division to separate and weaken the body of Christ. We’re stronger together than we are by ourselves. We can contend better together against opponents that attack us. Together, we can defeat each attack.

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. Ephesians 4:3 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Let’s protect the “one man.” We are all in Christ since He made us one new man- all new creations in Christ. The purpose of being one is to contend for the faith, standing together on the Word of God. Our faith is in Christ and God’s Word. As believers stick together no matter what happens, we conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel, the Good News, of Christ. Christ means anointing. As we live in unity with our brothers and sisters in Christ, God’s Word and the anointing are honored.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1 (New International Version, NIV)
