Commit It To God

Commit It To God

And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46 (KJV) emphasis mine

The word commend in the Greek is paratithhem, meaning to place alongside, present, deposit (as to trust for protection), set before, commend, put forth, commit to the keeping of. Jesus placed Himself in God’s trust, depositing Himself for the Father to protect Him and bring Him back from death. In all that Jesus went through, He trusted that God would take care of Him. He committed the keeping of Himself to God the Father.

For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: I Peter 2:21-23 (KJV) emphasis mine

Committed in Greek is paratheke, which means a putting with, depost, trust. According to Greek scholar Rick Renner, it means to commend, commit, to yield, or to hand something over to someone else. Jesus set an example for us to follow. In everything we face, especially when we are being mistreated, we must entrust ourselves, all that concerns us, and all that we are facing to God (I Peter 5:7). We must hand it over to Him.

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. II Timothy 1:12 (KJV) emphasis mine

Paul suffered for preaching Christ, and in all his persecution, he said he was not ashamed. Why? Because he knew Whom he had believed (Jesus Christ) and was persuaded that Christ was able to keep that which he had committed and entrusted to Him- his life.

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV)

Because we have Jesus as our High Priest, let us hold fast to our confession of faith, come to Him, and give it all to Him. He helps us overcome all we go through. As we commit it to Jesus, He gives us mercy and grace to overcome.

Entrust, commit, yield, hand it all to God. Trust everything to His care. He can handle our lives, our past, our present, our future, our finances, our heath, our callings, our giftings, our relationships, our eternity- everything. Give everything to God, and hold nothing back. Let Him keep it for you and take care of it. No person, devil, or situation can steal it from us when it is in God’s caring, protective hands. All is safe and secure with Father God.
