"What Do You Want me To Do For You?"

"What Do You Want me To Do For You?"

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him. Matthew 20:29-34 (New International Version, NIV)

This tells us of an incident in Jesus’ ministry concerning two blind men sitting along the side of the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they caled out to Him, “Son of David!” By using this title, they were calling Jesus the Messiah. They knew the Messiah would come with healing in His wings to restore and make whole (Malachi 4:2). Although they were opposed by the crowd, they were persistent. Then, Jesus stopped and asked them, “What do you want me to do for you?” They answered that they wanted their sight. In His compassion, Jesus touched their eyes and immediately they received their sight. They then followed Jesus.

“What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asks this of each of us. When we call Him Lord and Messiah, calling on Him in faith, we get His attention. Be persistent in your faith. Don’t let the naysayers and critics stop you. Just one touch from Jesus heals us and restores our lives. He makes us whole again. Receive what you need from Jesus. He willingly gives us what we need and want- as we call on Him. Speak it out. Don’t be shy. Tell Him what you want Him to do. He won’t disappoint.

And commit to following Him. He makes our lives worthwhile through His healing and restoration. Jesus wants more than converts, He wants us to be disciples, learning of Him and becoming more like Him everyday. As we make Him Lord and Savior over our lives, He will touch us, and we will never be the same again.
