At Thy Word
We all face impossible situations at times. Impossible for us, but not for God. We have examples in God’s written Word showing that the Word will work for the person who acts on God’s Word.
Provision At His Word
And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink…. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. Mark 5:1-7, 11 (KJV)
These men, professional fishermen, had fished all night and caught nothing. Jesus told them to launch out into the deep to cast their nets one more time. Simon, later renamed Peter, said, “Nevertheless at thy word…” When he acted on Jesus’ Word, he activated the Lord’s miracle-working Word that produced a huge catch. In response, the men forsook all and followed Jesus. Jesus always proves that He provides.
Healing At His Word
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel….. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. Matthew 8:5-10, 13 (KJV)
This centurion did not require a sign or for Jesus to come in person to heal his servant. He trusted that Jesus’ Word carried the authority needed to heal. He told Jesus to speak the Word only, and his servant was healed the same hour it was spoken. He took Jesus at His Word. When we take Jesus at His Word, the spoken Word will produce healing in our bodies.
A Savior At His Word
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God….And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:30-35, 38 (KJV)
A medical impossibility became reality when a young virgin took God at His Word. Mary was told she would conceive and give birth to a child without ever having known a man intimately. Although this was unprecedented and physically not possible, Mary believed the Word of God brought to her by the angel. She believed God and received His Word, which carries life, healing, provision, salvation- all that we need. In so doing, she gave birth to the Savior of the world, the Word Himself who gives everything to us that we need when we take Him at His Word.
We must choose to take Jesus at His Word. The first step to do this is to know His Word. If we don’t know what He’s said to us in the pages of Scripture, we can’t take Him at His Word. By believing what He says and acting on it, we’ll get the results He promises. No matter what problems we face, we can receive God’s Word in order to meet every challenge and fulfill every need.
