The Trinity, A Singing God
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
Did you know that our Heavenly Father sings over us? He is a singing God.
Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. Hebrews 2:12 (KJV)
We see here that not only does the Father sing, but Jesus sings also. He sings through and to His church. First, He sings praises to His father through the church. Then, Jesus sings His songs, what are often termed “the songs of the Lord” to His church. It is the bridegroom singing a love song to the bride.
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:18-19 (KJV)
In this passage we learn that the Holy Spirit sings through the church with psalms, hymns, and singing. Then, the Spirit sings to the church through spiritual songs, which refers to the songs Holy Spirit sings to and over us.
In these three verses, God is represented as all three members of the Trinity, and all three are pictured as singing. God in three persons is a singing God.
The song of the Lord is when God sings His song over us and to us. He may sing a scripture over us, or a prophecy to build us up. As we worship the Lord, we release the flow of the Holy Spirit, in Whom these songs begin to be birthed. Heaven is a worshipping place, and Jesus wants earth to be like heaven. As we worship the Lord, His presence will manifest in our midst, and these songs of the Lord will flow from Him to us, and then we can sing back to Him. These are called Spiritual Songs; songs from the Holy Spirit.
So we know that God is a singing God, and He wants His people to be a singing people. So, as He sings over us, we can join in and sing back to Him the songs He gives us. This is spontaneous worship that will take us higher and deeper in the Spirit realm, and it will bring us into the very presence of God.
So don’t be afraid to sing to the Lord, then listen as God sings over you. There is no sound more beautiful.
