The Trinity: The Singing God
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. I John 5:7 (KJV)
I want point out from Scripture that the Trinity is God, three in one. And They are all a singing God, or the God Who loves to sing.
God the Father
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV)
This verse tells us that our heavenly Father sings over us. He sings His songs over us- songs of might, salvation, love, and His Word. God’s songs are prophetic. They are what we call the song of the Lord, and we also call them new songs. According to Psalm 32:7, He surrounds us with songs of deliverance. He sings to convey His love, His Word and His presence- all we need. Our response should be to sing back to God.
God the Son
Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. Hebrews 2:12 (KJV)
This is referring to Jesus. This is a quote from Psalm 22:22. Christ will declare to us who the Father is. Jesus sings through us, His body. He releases songs of the Father and the Spirit of Prophecy to comfort, edify, and exhort. The songs are prophetic songs, Word songs, new songs. Jesus is in His church and sings songs through us and to us. He also sings to His Father through us. In addition, He sings over us to reveal who God is and to speak a word from God to His children. Jesus even joins in and helps us worship God. Jesus sings in the midst of us as we gather in His name.
God the Holy Spirit
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:18-20 (New Living Translation, NLT)
As the church is filled with the Holy Spirit, they will sing the songs the Holy Spirit gives them to sing. Thus, we see that the Holy Spirit is a singer, One who loves to sing songs to God and Jesus through the church. This shows that Holy Spirit is in us, upon us, and among us. Spiritual songs are spontaneous songs being sung by Holy Spirit. The church joins in to sing the songs of the Holy Spirit. Thanksgiving is released because of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. So, we see the Holy Spirit is a singing Spirit who loves to sing songs to God through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
Our God is Three in One, a singing God. He loves to sing over us and include us in the songs the Trinity sings.
