It Feels So Good To Be Clean
Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted. Titus 1:15 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Have you ever noticed how some people’s minds are always in the gutter? Certain people will hear an innocent, normal statement and turn it into something provocative and crude. I used to be that way myself before I became a believer in Christ. It was just an automatic thing. When I heard something, it was automatically filtered through an unclean way of seeing things, so it came out unclean and twisted.
The Message Bible renders it this way:
Everything is clean to the clean-minded; nothing is clean to dirty-minded unbelievers. They leave their dirty fingerprints on every thought and act. Titus 1:15 (The Message, MSG)
The Living Bible says it even better.
A person who is pure of heart sees goodness and purity in everything; but a person whose own heart is evil and untrusting finds evil in everything, for his dirty mind and rebellious heart color all he sees and hears. Titus 1:15 (The Living Bible, TLB)
This is why the entertainment world has become the revolting display that it is. Their minds are filthy by nature, therefore they produce filth.
When I became born-again, I became a new creature. The old person was dead and a clean, new person was in her place. However, I had to grow and develop in my new life. My mind was still programmed to the old thought patterns, even though I knew right away they were not pure. I was saved, but my mind still had to be renewed. As I spent time in the Bible and listening to anointed preaching, my mind began to change, being washed by the water of the Word (Ephesians 5:26). As it did, I could notice wrong thoughts more easily and was able to reject them quickly. After consistently practicing this, I reached a point where those kinds of thoughts are no longer an issue. My mind has been cleaned, and to the clean, all things appear clean.
If you are born-again but you struggle with thoughts that are impure, the best thing you can do is to get in God’s Word every day. It is a cleansing stream that washes away the impurities of the former life. And it washes away those unclean attitudes from the world that will try to attach themselves to us as we are in the workplace, school and society daily. The washing of the water of the Word works. It makes us clean in our thought life and we will find it easy to think right. And let me tell you from personal experience, it feels so good to be clean.
