It's Worth It All
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11 (New Living Translation, NLT)
My friend, don’t be surpised if Jesus tells you to come and follow Him. We may have to leave everything, just as Jesus did in order to fulfill the will of His heavenly Father. Personally, God has led us to pick up and leave our home at two different times from two different states. We had to step out and trust God for everything- similar to how Jesus left all to follow God’s plan for His life and ours. It’s not always easy but it is worth it.
Jesus endured the cross, but looked ahead at the final results.Don’t look at what you have given up in your efforts to live for God. You can count it as seed sown to the Lord. As Jesus sowed Himself for mankind and is still reaping the harvest, we too can follow His example and sow our lives for God. When we do, God will give us far more than what we gave Him.
Yes,” Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life. Mark 10:29-30 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Jesus left all the glory of heaven and gained it all back and more. God is saying that as we follow Jesus’ example, we will receive so much more than what we gave up- now in this life and in the life to come. Am I telling you to pick up and move? No, of course not. I am telling you that Jesus will call you to give up some things that will require some commitment and serious faith to give up. But, rest assured, it’s worth it all.
