He's Our Father, Not A Feeling
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:20 (KJV)
I remember I once heard the Lord speak to my heart, “I’m your Father, not a feeling.” God is my heavenly Father; I don’t need to feel Him to know He’s there. God was taking me deeper, teaching me to live by Who He is and not by my feelings. Regardless of what I feel or don;t feel, God is here; He is always with me- and as a believer in Jesus, He’s always with you too. He is called Emmanuel, which means God with us.
I like what Jesus said, “I’m not alone- the Father is with me.” God is more than a feeling, yet at times we will feel His presence, feel He’s here, which is a good thing. But when we can’t feel God, we have to trust Him and take Him at His Word. God wants us to live by faith in His Word (Matthew 4:4, Romans 1:17) The just shall live by faith, not feelings.
It’s okay to have feelings; they were given by God to help us enjoy life, but we are to walk by faith. When we can’t feel God, we go deeper and take Him at His Word. As a result we learn not to be swayed by our feelings, but our faith is in our heavenly Father and who He is. When we know that God is love, faithful, able, worthy, caring, and kind, then we have a relationship with Him based on His character and not based on our fickle feelings. It will be a heart to heart relationship, rather than an emotional one.
God is your Father and He wants you to feel loved. He wants you to know He believes in you. But feelings will come and go. God is always the same and His Word is eternal. God desires a heart-to-heart, Spirit-to-spirit, intimate relationship with you. He is asking you to go beyond your feelings.
Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Psalm 42:7 (KJV)
He’s calling you to go deeper. If you answer the call and choose to trust beyond what you feel, your relationship with your heavenly Father will grow, and you will know Him based on His character and His Word.
