Overcoming the Negative
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Romans 4:18-21 (KJV)
Abraham had a lot of reasons to be negative about the promise of a son, but he chose to stay positive. If we are to receive what God has promised us, we must overcome negativity and keep an optimistic outlook.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
This verse is clear instruction, straight from the throne of God, about how to stay positive. Look for the good things in life, not the bad. The old saying is true that we get what we look for. In other words, what we look for we will find. You see, negativity attracts negative people, and positivity attracts positive people. Why do some people constantly attract the wrong people to themselves? Because what we are is what is drawn to us. It is tied to receiving what we expect. When we believe we are going to have bad things happen, we will, because we end up speaking words that set bad stuff into motion.
Find the good things in life, specifically in your life. Look for the best, not the worst. Satan causes bad things to happen to get you into a negative mindset, inspiring you to speak negatively, giving him legal authority to operate in your life, and keeping the negative cycle going. Then you wonder what’s wrong with your life and why bad things continue to happen to you.
First of all, to overcome a negative outlook which leads to a negative life, change how you think. That’s why Philippians 4:8 is important. We can choose what we think about. When we change our thoughts, we change our words, which changes our outcomes. Thinking on God’s Word will cause us to speak God’s Word, and we will get the results God wants for us. We will begin to see the good in life when we look to God, because He is good. And He will give us spiritual eyes to see what’s going on in the spiritual realm, even when things look negative in the natural.
It’s been said that no matter what we go through, trials and bad circumstances have an expiration date. In other words. this too shall pass. When we keep a positive mindset, we can actually enjoy our time in the midst of trouble, and we will find that the end of the trial comes quicker. Don’t let what’s going on around you to get inside you, and you will get through tough times.
When bad things happen, keep in mind that things might be bad, but God will always work it out for your good. Every thing that happens in life isn’t good, but if we trust Him, God will work it out so it turns out to be beneficial to us. Keeping this in mind will go a long way in staying positive. A positive attitude can turn a negative situation into something good. Face the wrong and do what’s right. Face the bad and do good. Face the negative and be positive. A person who approaches life this way cannot be defeated or overcome.
