Don't Curse Your Blessing
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth….” Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:27-28, 31 (NKJV)
God blessed everything He made. The entire earth was blessed.
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Genesis 3:17 (NKJV)
God made the earth and blessed it. He blessed Adam and Eve. When Adam and Eve sinned, this brought a curse to their blessing. By their disobedience, what was blessed (man) brought the curse and the fall to the earth and to all mankind. God never cursed man. Man in essence cursed himself, or brought the curse upon himself and on the whole earth.
We are blessed by God, but we can bring a curse to our lives by our own disobedience. Although Christ has redeemed us from the curse (Galatians 3:13-14), we can invite the curse by the words we speak and by being disobedient to what God has told us.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
Our words and our choices determine whether we live under the blessing or curse. And even if we’ve been disobedient in the past, we can reverse the curse by repenting, walking in obedience to the Lord, and speaking in agreement with the Word of God.
As we obey God and speak the Word, we plant good seed, which leads to a good harvest in our lives. We can choose life, not death, and blessing, not cursing. When we get in agreement with God, we are blessed and cannot be cursed.
Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight. Proverbs 26:2 (NKJV)
