Not of Ourselves
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; II Corinthians 3:5 (KJV)
It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. II Corinthians 3:5 (New Living Translation, NLT)
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: Colossians 2:10 (KJV)
At one point or another, every one of us thinks we don’t measure up- to ourselves or to others. Yet, God says it’s not based on what we can do, but on what Christ has done.
When we’re not enough, God is more than enough. When we’re weak, God is strong. When we can’t, God can. When we hurt, He heals. When we seem to be alone, God is with us. Our worth is not based on what other people think or say about us, but it is based on what God thinks about us, and what His grace does for us. He says we are His, therefore we are forgiven, we are accepted, we are qualified, and we are enough.
When we’ve lost it all, God restores. When we fall, God lifts us. We can’t save ourselves so God saves us. It’s not who you’re not, but who God is. Wherever we are deficient, God more than makes up the difference. We have so much incompleteness in ourselves, but we are made complete in Christ.
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. II Corinthians 12:9-10 (New Living Translation, NLT)
So, when we fail, fall, or just give up, God will often let us come to the end of ourselves so we can find that He is our sufficiency. When life gets old, God has new things for us. When it seems like we’ve come to a dead end in the road, God has a new way for us to travel. Just know that it is not about you or me, but it’s all about God. He is all we need because God is more than enough.
