Live to Bring God Glory
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31 (English Standard Version, ESV)
All that we do should bring glory to God.
Glory speaks of who God is, His nature. We call Jesus the glorified Lord. They cry “glory!” in heaven and in earth. Glory points to the acts of God in self-manifestation- who He is and what He does. Glory is the divine quality of God. We call God the God of glory because He is. His glory reveals who He is- It is a divine quality, a weighty, heavy radiance of God’s presence. No flesh can live in His glory. He is so glorious. Glory literally flows from Him. In the Bible, men who were in His presence fell at His feet as dead men. Flesh cannot handle the glory or stand before God if He is revealed in all His glory.
We also use the word glory in another way. Giving God the glory refers to ascribing honor, glory, and praise to God. As we live a life that brings honor and not shame to the name of Jesus, we give God glory. When we love, give to others, and treat people well, doing everything with excellence, our lives bring glory to God. As a result, others can see the attributes, characteristics, and fruit of God’s glory in our lives. In that way, they can see and understand God a little better. In us, they see that God is good, holy, faithful; that He is love. His righteousness and justice shine through us. As we display His nature, others can experience the glory of God for themselves so they can be changed. We all go from glory to glory by being born-again, reading God’s Word, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and encountering God’s presence and power daily. And this overflows to others.
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. II Corinthians 3:17-18 (KJV)
As we look at God in His glory, we are changed into His image more and more by the Spirit of the Lord. And as we live for Him more and more, He gets the glory from our good witness before others.
