Prophetic Signs of God

Prophetic Signs of God

Our God is a prophetic God. Throughout Scripture, God has given prophetic signs, and other evidence to give us supernatural insight and often previews of what is to come.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: Genesis 1:14 (KJV)

Prophetically, the sun, moon, and stars are signs that God exists and that proclaim the coming of Christ for the redemption of mankind. Isaiah and many others prophesied of the coming of Jesus.

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (KJV)

Ezekiel himself WAS a sign. He acted things out in prophetic symbolism, being a sign to them. He acted out what would happen to Judah and Jerusalem because they had turned away from God.

Mark 16 is full of signs.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:17-20 (KJV)

Notice that in order to manifest such signs, we must believe, or be born-again. Speaking in tongues is a supernatural sign to the unbeliever. Protection from harmful things like poison or serpents is a sign. The ability to cast out demons is a sign of authority. Healing is a sign that God is real and wants to do good for people. Signs are supernatural and point to the reality of God. Keep in mind that we not to follow signs. Instead we are to follow God, and as a result, signs will follow us. What God does for us in life are signs that God is there and He cares.

Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 speak of prophetic signs of end-time events.

Jonah was a prophetic sign of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Creation itself- the stars, sky, trees, birds, etc.- are all signs that God is real.

Every time God’s Word comes to pass, it is a sign that God keeps His Word. Everything God does for us is a sign of His power, presence, love, and faithfulness.

People’s names in the Bible were prophetic signs. Abram (Exalted Father) changed to Abraham (Father of Many). Sarai (Princess, Contentious, Quarrelsome) was changed to Sarah (Princess, Noble Woman).Jacob (Supplanter, Trickster) became Israel (Prince With God). Simon (Reed, Shaken) became Peter (A Stone, Rock) Name changes can be a sign of a change in character and destiny. Jesus’ name (God is Salvation) is a sign showing Him as Savior. When we’re born again, we get a new name, going from sinner to saint.

God uses the prophetic to show us who He is and what He does, often in advance. God gives us many signs of His character and of His coming actions- if we will look for them.
