Impartations

There’s a saying that says, “Some things are better caught than taught.” It refers to the fact that some things must be experienced rather than taught to us. Yes, we need good teaching. We need to be taught God’s Word. After all, that’s the point of this website. We must learn to apply God’s Word to our daily lives so we don’t get off into error or misapply the Word. However, there are simply some things that we must experience for ourselves. Some things are better caught than taught. Some things come to us by impartation rather than learning. It’s like a supernatural, spiritual download. We can impart anointings and giftings to others for spiritual growth and benefit.

For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; Romans 1:11 (KJV)

More information about spiritual gifts and the imparting of such, see Romans 12:6-8 and I Corinthians 12.

So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us. I Thessalonians 2:8 (KJV)

We can impart the Gospel to others. As we share God’s Word, it does not return void. By our words, we can plant and impart the seed of God’s word to others. It is a deposit that produces salvation, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, and more. As Peter spoke God’s Word in Acts, the Holy Spirit fell and they were filled with the Spirit of God, speaking in tongues (Acts 10:34-48)

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. I Timothy 4:12 (KJV)

Some things are imparted through example. For instance, Jesus set an example of how to live and we are to catch on to how He lives and follow His example. We can relate to and love people based on how Jesus did. We can also be an example to others. People may not hear what we say, but they can catch what we do.

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:6-7 (KJV)

Impartation can happen through the laying on of hands. we can impart and stir up spiritual gifts so they are activated or reignited for God (Acts 19:6). Spiritual leaders can impart giftings and anointings to empower us for a specific ministry (I Timothy 4:14). Impartation can be done in order to set someone in the office of prophet. Mantles can be passed on to others and giftings and abilities can be imparted to others as God directs (II Kings 2).

Impartations can happen through prophecy (I Timothy 1:18). We can impart by way of a prophetic word spoken to someone to help them fight a good fight, help them mature, and keep them on course. It can strengthen and encourage them to persevere in the faith and fight for truth.

The anointing for healing can be imparted to others through touching something that was touched by someone else. Consider the woman who had the issue of blood. Just by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment, she was healed and made whole (Mark 5:25-34). And people were healed by touching the same cloths that Paul had touched (Acts 19:11-12). Today these are often called prayer cloths.

Impartations are done through the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:13-16, Acts 2, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 19:6). Being where God’s Spirit is moving and being in the atmosphere of God’s presence, He can impart to us what He wants to give each of us.

Impartations are the supernatural downloads of whatever is needed. Holy Spirit imparts what we need through various methods, but impartations are essential for the victorious Christian life.
