See And Do

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. John 5:19-20 (New International Version, NIV)

Here, Jesus claimed to be God’s Son. He said of Himself that He could do nothing except what He saw His Father doing. It is interesting that Jesus was a Seer who did what He saw. He saw His Father and did what He saw Him doing- like Father, Like Son. The Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does.

As we behold the Father, seeing Him through the Word, by the Holy Spirit, and in worship, God will also show us what He does. Then, we can do what the Father does, relying on Him as we do it. And, we can do even greater works than the Father showed Jesus because Jesus has now gone to the Father.

When we see God, He will show us what He wants us to do- just like He showed Jesus. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out devils, fed the hungry, taught and preached the Word, and so much more. Think about how much we can do as God shows us what to do and when to do it! We can follow in Christ’s footsteps, with Christ working with us and through us to confirm the Word we preach with amazing signs and wonders. We’ll sow the Word and reap the harvest off of it. This is what happens when we see and do what God shows us.
