Be Still

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

Life is noisy. There are few places where we are actually in a quiet place. In stores, gas stations, restaurants, even some workplaces- music and other noises invade our thoughts. Sadly, man has a problem with silence these days. He always feels the need to fill it up with sound. To know God, we must get quiet enough so we can hear His voice.

In John 10, Jesus said that His sheep know His voice and a stanger they will not follow. God is speaking, but are we listening? We must quiet ourselves and listen for His voice so we can recognize when He speaks to us. The more we get still and hit the pause button, the more God will reveal Himself to us. As a result, we will get a greater revelation of His promises, presence and promptings. The more we listen to Him, the more we will know Him and understand His heart.

We get to know God through His Word. We can have encounters with God through encountering His Word. Sound biblical experiences with Him such as salvation, love, peace, joy, freedom, and victory are all revealed to us in the scriptures. To know the Word is to know God. As we are still and take time to be in the Word of God, we will experience a close face to face and heart to heart relationship with the Lord.

If we are not as close to God as we want to be, and if we are not growing spiritually like we should be- the fault does not lie with God. It is up to us to be still and know that He is God. When we quiet ourselves, we will find exactly what our hearts are seeking.
