Total Abandonment
Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. Song of Solomon 1:4 (KJV)
My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies. Song of Solomon 2:16 (KJV)
I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me. Song of Solomon 7:10 (KJV)
Jesus has loved us fully and freely. He’s held nothing back from us. He gave His all to love us, to win us, to make us His own. Even the death of the cross couldn’t keep Him from loving us. He gave His very life, His blood, becoming our sacrifice to say, “Hey, I love you!”
Because He loved us first and has loved us so totally, deeply, and completely, we can now love Him. We can abandon ourselves- our wills, wants, desires- to make Jesus our one love, our passion, our very own. As we abandon and deny ourselves, our self-life won’t stand in the way. We’ll be able to pursue Jesus wholeheartedly until He lets us catch Him.
When He lets us catch Him, He gives Himself to us all over again- and then we give ourselve all over again to Him. We abandon everyone and everything to make Jesus our one and only quest. We become so focused on Him that we say, “If I can’t have Jesus, then let me die.” Jesus died so He could have us. We must die- die to selfish wants and distractions- to have Jesus.
Jesus is calling and waiting for us. He’s waiting for us to say, “Yes, Lord, not my will but your will be done.” He wants to hear us tell Him, “You’re all I want.” When we live the abandoned life we become lost in each other’s love. Jesus just wants us. we ust want Jesus- our Love, our Life, our Lord.
