Trust God's Attributes
We can trust God because of who He is. However, if we don’t know God and what He is like, trust is more difficult. Let’s check out just a few of the many wonderful attributes, or characteristics, of God.
God is Good.
The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. Psalm 145:9 (KJV)
God is good and does us only good. He is good all the the time and will never stop being good. His goodness knows no end. There is absolutely no wickedness in God. When bad things happen, we must remember that God is good and will work good out of it for us.
God is Just.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9 (KJV)
God upholds justice in all He does. He is just, meaning He is upright, righteous, and true in all His dealings. He will do what is right for all involved. He is not partial or corrupt. When we’ve been wronged, we know that God is just and will bring justice to our situation. God is the Righteous Judge.
God Is Love.
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. I John 4:8 (KJV)
God will always love us. The love of the Lord is enduring and eternal, lasting forever. I Corinthians 13 tells us about our Love God. He is patient and kind, not easily angered, and holds no record of wrongs against us. He believes the best in us and for us, never leaves us, and will always protect us. God will never fail us. He is compassionate towards us. He has a heart of love that moves Him to action on our behalf.
God is Holy.
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. I Peter 1:16 (KJV)
God is pure and separate from sin. He will never sin and He will never cause us to sin, but to live right. The Holy Spirit comes to make us holy, to be like God. Holy means to be set apart from sin, set apart to serve God.
God is All-Knowing and Wise.
For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. I John 3:20 (KJV)
God has all knowledge. Wise in the Greek means to see. He has all wisdom. He sees and knows all. he always knows what is best for us. We should let Him choose what we need- even when we don’t understand. God is too wise to make a mistake. he knows how to make messes into miracles, and He knows how to turn us into masterpieces.
God is Faithful.
Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; Deuteronomy 7:9 (KJV)
God is faithful, meaning He is steadfast in affection. loyal, reliable, dependable, constant, and full of faith for us. He keeps His promises and will never leave us. This is a very good reason to trust God. His faithfulness makes Him trustworthy. When we don’t understand or have to keep waiting for something, we know He is faithful and will do what He said. God is working on us and for us to give us His best.
God is Merciful and Gracious.
And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Exodus 34:6 (KJV)
God’s mercy saved us from what we deserved, and His grace gave us what we did not deserve. Merciful in the Hebrew means to be compassionate and kind. Gracious in Hebrew is used only to describe God and denotes the action that springs from His free and unmerited love to His creation. God will not cut us off, as our sins deserve, but in His mercy, he extends grace to forgive us.
Summary
Because God is good, just, love, holy, all-knowing, wise, faithful, merciful, and gracious, He will continue to work on us to mature us and make us Christ-like. He will use everything in our lives to accomplish this. Nothing is wasted when we put it in God’s hands. We can trust in God and His attributes to help us and cause us to fulfill our destiny in Him.
