Faith For Each Step
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105 (New International Version, NIV)
Jim’s post yesterday made me think of Psalm 119:105. Very rarely in life will you know far in advance about the places you will go and the things you will encounter on the way. God will give us glimpses and show us enough to direct us, but we don’t get the full picture. If we did, then we wouldn’t need to walk by faith. But we do know that He is positioning us and leading us in the way to go. We simply have to trust Him.
And, as this verse reminds us, we have to trust Him each step. The Word will provide us enough light to take the steps needed, but the light only shines far enough ahead for us to see the path we are on right now. It does not give us a clear picture of everything in front of us. Like I said, it requires faith to travel God’s path on the jouney of life.
Right now you may be looking at your circumstances and wonder, “How did I get here?” or “Where am I headed?” We try too hard to figure out everything about our lives and to determine what our future looks like. However, we are not going to figure it all out. Just the moment you think you have things figured out, God shows you how wrong you are. So, we might as well just quit trying to decipher all of God’s plans, decide to trust Him, and sit back and enjoy the ride. With God, there is a certain amount of mystery to everything. It is what makes God God. If we knew everything, we wouldn’t need Him.
Trust the Lord. God didn’t say He would tell us every detail about the plans He has for us. He just said He has plans for us and that they are good. That should be enough.
For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the Lord. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. Jeremiah 29:11 (New English Translation, NET)
Only the Word of God provides us the illumination for the path we are on. It guides us and enables us to take the right steps where we are so we can end up at the destination God has for us. So, day by day, take steps of faith, enjoy your journey, and soon you’ll arrive where God wants you to be.
